Travel grants to advance collective and coordinated action on diabetes stigma
Applications are now open for the Global Summit to End Diabetes Stigma Travel Grants.
The Global Summit to End Diabetes Stigma identified shared priorities and opportunities for action to reduce diabetes stigma and discrimination. Funded by Breakthrough T1D, and enabled by the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes and #dedoc°, this seed-funding opportunity supports the people and organisations to collaboratively build on Summit connections, ideas, and commitments.
International consensus recommendations to bring an end diabetes stigma and discrimination were published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology in 2024. The 2026 Global Summit to End Diabetes Stigma built on this foundation by identifying shared priorities, strengthening connections, and exploring opportunities for action. This funding opportunity is designed to support the next step: turning shared commitments into collaborative action.
Approximately US$100,000 (in total) is available for travel-enabled activities that bring people and organisations together to advance collective and coordinated action to bring an end to diabetes stigma and discrimination.
Who can apply
Applications are welcome from teams (two or more individuals, groups or organisations). Teams must involve: a) at least one attendee of the 2026 Global Summit to End Diabetes Stigma, and b) people with lived experience of ANY type of diabetes. Teams may also involve one or more of the following:
- researchers and health professionals
- community organisations, charities and peak bodies
- policymakers, industry and/or public sector representatives
We encourage applications from under-represented regions, low- and middle-income countries, multi-country collaborations, and communities with historically limited access to funding.
What can be supported
Funding can support travel to take part in:
- workshops, action-planning meetings, or coordination sessions
- peer exchanges (lived experience, advocacy, research or practice)
- community-led or community–researcher collaborations
- regional or multi-country partnership-building.
- meetings to develop shared advocacy, research, policy, or practice
All funded activities must aim to advance collective and coordinated action to end diabetes stigma. They should build on collaborations and outcomes of the Global Summit to End Diabetes Stigma Summit. All activities must show meaningful involvement of lived experience of diabetes from planning to reporting.
Awards are provided as travel grants via #dedoc°, to help people travel to take part in these activities. Applicants may also apply for additional support toward venue hire and/or catering costs, where these are essential and funding is available.
All funded activities must be completed by 31 March 2027 (unless otherwise approved by the funding committee).
